John Addey

Astrologer, philosopher. Graduated from St John’s College Cambridge. Dissatisfied with the uncertainty of astrology, began to seek a more scientific approach. Founded the Astrological Association and the Urania Trust, an association dedicated the reconciliation of astronomy and astrology.


Francis Bacon

English philosopher, the father of modern science. An ardent champion of astrology.


EH Bailey

Born 1876 Kent, England. Astrologer and author.


Luke Dennis Broughton

Born 1828, Leeds, doctor and astrologer. Grandson and father also doctors who followed Nicolas Culpepper. Moved to US 1854. Served as an expert witness in cases where astrologers were arrested for telling fortunes.


Nicholas Campion

Born 1953. Educated at Queens’ College Cambridge. Attended London University and the School of African and Oriental Studies, LSE. A member of the Association of Professional Astrologers and former President of the Astrological Lodge of London. Author of The Book of World Horoscopes.


Charles EO Carter

1887, Parkstone, England. Graduated from the University of London and began practicing Law in 1913. Served in the army during the First World War. He was the first principal of the London Faculty of Astrological Studies, President of the Astrological Lodge of the Theosophical Society and Editor of the Astrological Quarterly.


Nicolas Culpepper

Astrologer and herbalist. Born 1616 Ockley, England, to a wealthy family that owned property in Kent and Surrey. Studied Classics at Cambridge. 1642 joined the forces opposed to King Charles 1 and fought in the Battle of Edgehill. Brought hostility from the medical profession when he published the English Translation of the Pharmacopea 1649, thus revealing details about herbs and other medical substances that had been previously kept secret.


Cyril Fagan

Born 1896, Dublin, Ireland. Deafness prevented him from following the family profession, medicine. He eventually took up astrology, and settled in Tuscon, Arizona.


John Gadbury

Born 1627, Wheatley, Oxon, England. Graduated from Oxford University, later working as a London merchant. Published books on the science of the stars and natal astrology.


Llewellyn George

Born 1876, Swansea, Wales. A prominent astrologer, author and founder of Llewellyn Publications. Later moved to Los Angeles with his publishing business.


Alan Leo

Born 1860, Westminister, London. Author and publisher. Founded the Astrological Lodge of the Theosophical Society 1915.


William Lilly

Born in Diseworth Leicester 1602. Originally trained to be a Church of England minister, but his father’s financial difficulties meant he couldn’t complete his education in this area. He married into wealth, studied astrology and later medicine.


RJ Morrison

Also known as Zadkiel. Born 1795, Enfield, London. Naval Lieutenant, later served in the coast guard and decorated for bravery. Author and publisher of Zadkiel’s Almanac. After Prince Albert’s death in 1861, Edward Belcher of the Daily Telegraph attacked Morrison , who responded by suing for libel and winning.


Sir Issac Newton Born 1642, Lincolnshire, England. Scientist famous for formulating the law of universal gravitation. Also studied and supported Astrology.


Walter Gorn Old

Also known as Sepharial. Born 1864 Warwick, England. Studied medicine, psychology, oriental languages and astrology. Influenced EH Bailey and Alan Leo.


John Partridge

Born 1643 East Sheen, London. Started life working as a shoemaker, Taught himself Latin, Greek and Hebrew. Graduated in Medicine from Leyden University Holland.Author and publisher of astrological almanacs and works.
